DESCRIPTION:Workshop Dates: Thursday October 24 thru Friday October 25 (2 Full Days)\nWorkshop Times: 9am – 6pm \nLearn How to Create an Online Shop for your Craft Products! \nDo you already make custom jewelry\, decorative home items\, or other handmade products for sale or gift giving? If so\, this 2-day workshop will teach you how to start an online shop for your unique line of handcrafted items. \nIn partnership with Knoxville Entrepreneur Center and Etsy\, a leader in e-commerce for creative entrepreneurs\, we’re offering this free workshop to help craft makers like you establish an online business to sell your products to a wider market and earn extra income. \nCraft Entrepreneurship classes are taught by successful online craft sellers who coach and support participants through every aspect of setting up their online shops. Using Etsy as a learning lab\, teachers share best practices on topics that impact new sellers most\, including time management\, branding\, pricing\, shipping\, and photography\, to help them earn supplemental income through their craft business. To minimize startup costs\, new sellers will be given the opportunity to list 20 items for sale for free on etsy.com. Regina holds degrees in Law from Hastings and International Relations from Stanford University. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nLori Theriault is the Marketing Director for The Village Potters Clay Center\, where she is also a founding Resident Potter and Mentor. As Marketing Director\, she draws on past experiences in event management\, stage production management\, and her own entrepreneurial endeavors to leverage online marketing and social media to extend the brand of The Village Potters Clay Center.  The Village Potters Clay Center comprise an intentional Collective of potters who share a commitment to inspire a passion for ceramic art and nurture creative exploration through education\, experience\, relationships\, and community. The Village Potters includes three showrooms\, a Teaching Center offering ongoing classes in wheel and hand building for adults\, an Advanced Ceramic Studies Program\, and scheduled demonstration and hands-on workshops. The Village Potters Clay Center is an educational member of The Craft Guild of the Southern Highlands\, and is an official distributor for Laguna Clays. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nBerry Bate is not your typical artist. Her 45-year career has taken her from classical music halls to the feet of the Statue of Liberty\, from teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Wyoming\, to hanging off the face of Chimney Rock. She graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg\, South Carolina with a Bachelor of Music degree in voice in 1975. It was during those college years that she found her true calling by working with metal. She attended graduate school at Western Carolina University majoring in sculpture. She also attended John Campbell Folk School and learned the art of blacksmithing. \n\nBerry started her first business\, “Fire Form” in 1979 in a chicken coop in Waynesville\, North Carolina. In 1980 she moved to Asheville and founded Asheville Ironworks\, Inc. One of her first challenges was the fabrication of the primary fence atop the pinnacle of Chimney Rock State Park\, where she and her crew had to rappel off the edge of the rock in order to do the installation. For two decades she worked at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville creating various architectural pieces\, including a main gate\, garden wall railings\, and numerous chandeliers. In 1986 she was a consultant for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. She’s built work for the Omni Grove Park Inn and Billy Graham’s “The Cove”. \n\nIn 1995 Berry sold Asheville Ironworks\, Inc. and then founded Sculpture by Berry Bate where she and her talented assistants still create beautiful artistic architectural ironwork and sculptures in iron\, bronze and copper. \n\n\n\n\n\nAshleigh Hardes is the Marketing Director\, business manager and a founding member of Lexington Glassworks with 10 years of small business marketing experience. She wears many hats at Lexington Glassworks including managing the studio’s digital marketing strategies\, branding\, media relations\, PR and B2B development. Ashleigh is an active member in both the arts and business community of Asheville. She is a current board member of the Asheville Downtown Association\, serves on the Downtown Asheville Arts District leadership committee\, was the 2018 Summer of Glass marketing chair and the former South Slope Neighborhood Association President helping to spearhead the SSN Mural Project. SUMMARY:Alpine Cohort for Makers (part of the Craft Your Commerce Series)
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays: April 26th – May 24th\, 2018 from 9:30am– 12:30pm \nThis 5-week cohort experience will guide existing artists and makers through a comprehensive assessment of their experience producing and selling to date\, while also addressing the opportunities and challenges currently at hand. It is designed to offer the accountability and support necessary to both clarify goals for the future and generate action. Content areas include visioning\, financial review\, cost and benefit analyses\, refinement of marketing plans and methods\, as well as focus sessions to generate critical feedback and new ideas. Annie Milroy Price\, of Mountain BizWorks and Birds Eye\, will be facilitating this course and will be integrating relevant information from the Craft Your Commerce workshop series into the program. This panel discussion and workshop will explore this topic with the founders of Bloodroot Blades (Athens\, GA) and East Fork Pottery (Asheville\, NC)\, moderated by Annie Milroy Price of Mountain BizWorks. Attendees will have the chance to reflect on their own goals for the future while learning from both of these highly-acclaimed makers about the opportunities that they have embraced and the challenges that they have overcome. \nAbout the presenters\nBloodroot Blades \n\nLuke Snyder: Luke began making knives and wooden objects with his father at a very young age. An avid hunter and gatherer and former PhD candidate in forest ecology\, Luke now works full time as part of Bloodroot Blades. He is married to Helen\, and they have three children: Wren\, Nell\, and Muir.\nDavid Van Wyk: David comes from a family of woodworkers and farmers. A former high school English teacher and craftsman hobbyist on the side\, David began making knives with Luke in 2010. David is married to Katy\, and the two of them enjoy gardening and working on their house on the Bloodroot property.\nKaty Van Wyk: A former PhD candidate in English\, Katy now handles all things social and communicative for Bloodroot. When she’s not helping manage the business\, she enjoys gardening and is an avid reader.\n\nEast Fork Pottery \n\nAlex Matisse: In 2010\, Alex founded East Fork Pottery in the mountains outside of Asheville\, North Carolina. Today East Fork produces a range of contemporary dinnerware and decorative ceramics and sources a range of other considered objects for the home. Alex leads East Fork along with business partners Connie Matisse and John Vigeland as they begin to scale their production and sales.
